The IDB Group Corporate Sustainability Index for Latin America and the Caribbean

IndexAmericas is a corporate sustainability index that seeks to celebrate and foster responsible corporate citizenship geared toward advancing development in Latin America and the Caribbean. It was created by the Inter-American Development Bank and its private sector arm, IDB Invest, in partnership with S-Network Global Indexes. It is powered by data on environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) indicators from Refinitiv and receives academic support from the Earth Institute at Columbia University. The first sustainability index ever created by a multilateral development bank and the first to analyze development as a critical element of sustainability, IndexAmericas recognizes the 100 most sustainable publicly traded companies operating in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

  1. IndexAmericas is composed by only those companies included in the universe of Refinitiv Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) research data; and reflects a comprehensive industry-focused analysis according to the Thomson Reuters Business Classification System (TRBC) from Refinitiv (Energy, Basic materials, Industrials, Consumer Cyclical, Consumer Non-Cyclicals, Healthcare, Financials, Technology, Telecommunications Services and Utilities).
  2. IndexAmericas selection criteria includes only those companies with presence in Latin America and the Caribbean.
  3. IndexAmericas criteria excludes those sectors that are included in the Inter-American Development Bank and IDB Invest (conjunctively, IDB Group) list of excluded activities (https://www.idbinvest.org/en/download/6392), and firms that have been sanctioned by the IDB Group’s Sanctions Committee because they were found to have engaged in fraud, corruption, collusion, coercion, or obstruction in violation of the IDB Group anti-corruption policies (http://www.iadb.org/en/topics/transparency/integrity-at-the-idb-group/sanctioned-firms-and-individuals,1293.html).
  4. The IndexAmericas Committee (composed of minimum five (5) members from IDB Group, Columbia University and S-Network) can decide in exceptional cases at any time during the year to remove a company from the index regardless of its score, if the company has been part of recent controversies, scandals, allegations, disputes or failure to comply on Environmental Social Governance standards that may have a damaging effect on their reputation and core business, in addition to companies whose activities became substantially involved in the excluded activities described in point 3.
  5. The methodology used in IndexAmericas is dynamic and will be updated and reviewed regularly.
  6. IndexAmericas will be updated periodically. A list of additions and deletions will be highlighted in IndexAmericas hosted website.
  7. IndexAmericas may not be used for commercial purposes. Furthermore, none of the IndexAmericas data is intended to constitute investment advice or a recommendation to make or refrain from making any kind of investment or business decision, and may not be relied on as such.
